Unschooling

A Short Summary of My Schooling.

History of my Education

From what my mom tells me, I was homeschooled from three to five years old. Then we began our journey in the private school system. From first to fifth grade, we studied writing, math, science, history, and normal subjects. I'm glad we went to a private school because I believe it taught me the basics of education.

I've always been a fast reader, but I've had to teach myself speed reading instead of skimming. There's a difference. This love for reading sparked my love for writing. My writing really got better on one New Year's Day. My friend Liam and I had just finished plunging into the icy cold waters of the Spokane River. Without a word, we instantly sprang into the Jacuzzi as soon as we got home. It was there both made the resolution to write a long book-size story before the year ended. We made a Discord channel for writing, and I immediately dived into it. 92 pages later, I ended my story but didn't finish it. This was not out of laziness. I simply had a better idea. Six months it took me to write those 92 pages. From when I stopped it in August, I planned out a book, characters, maps, and the whole lot, and am now 160 pages in. I'm writing this in October. I nearly split my time in half by pursuing the story I actually WANTED to write, and I'm so glad I did. Looking back, I can see both the difference in my style and quality.

Regarding schooling, we are now unschooled. Most people have not heard of the term "unschooled," but I highly recommend it. It's experience-based learning when it comes down to it. This is because out of all the ways to learn, experience is not only retained the most but is also the easiest to understand and excel in. For example, instead of sitting in a classroom learning Spanish, we go to Mexico. Now, I can understand Spanish fairly well because I was forced to learn it by being surrounded by people who speak it.

Along with education in the basics of living, such as math and science, I pour myself into the scriptures. I believe that, in the end, the Bible trumps all history books the world can muster. I memorized the chapter: Romans 8 because, why not? Why not become the best and most prepared Christian I can be? It's this spirit of diligence that I strive towards.
